Client Comment

Ever since I moved into this condo, I had been dreaming of a state-of-the art kitchen that would fit my particular needs as a wheelchair user. With the help of Yoko Barsky, who researched the subject, and actually listened to my every need, my dream kitchen is a reality today, but my TAB (Temporarily Able-Bodied!) friends love to hang out there and use it as well.

With the wider aisle and the high toe kick, I can now turn around anywhere in the kitchen. One side of this galley kitchen is the standard height to house the wine refrigerator, but the sink and cooktop side is 2 inches lower for my easier reach.

All appliances are accessible: the oven door swings to the side, instead of down, I pull out the dish drawer and cooktop over my knees, and slide under the sink which is shallower than standard. The range hood has control buttons at the height reachable from the chair, and the wall cabinet shelves can be pulled down for access. My dish storage with sliding doors is strategically located just across the aisle from the dish drawer.

The granite counter tops and matching table at the window are beautiful and the sun is controlled by the remote shade with a push of a button.

I hope to spend many happy years cooking in this kitchen.
